Mellara Anzenberger

 
I’ve been teaching yoga in my native Australia, throughout Los Angeles, and the Bay area of San Francisco since 1998. I teach a compassionate conscious practice, taught in the lineage of Channa Dassanayaka, my beloved teacher. My heartfelt gratitude that I have for Channa is carried forward, and his profound teachings are shared.

One of the biggest self-realization in my own healing, is being kind to my body, and having enough awareness to grasp the meaning of it.
When I first became certified as a Hatha Teacher it was from the Center for Yoga, in Los Angeles, where I expanded my knowledge of the yogic way through training and assisting, Steven Freedman, Steve Walter, and Diana Beardsley. I went on for further study in 2005, with Erich Schiffmann, and Saul David Raye.
Incorporating both the physical and spiritual teachings of yoga in a modern context, I teach to all levels of beings, ages and abilities. The love and compassion that I feel to all students, be it in a group setting, or private one-to-one session, is very present.

 

Why yoga?
Because yoga is for everybody, no matter what size, age, race or financial means.
We are all incredibly interconnected, like a link in a chain, or a spoke in a wheel, and why beings like my beloved teacher, Channa Dassanayaka have been gifted to us, to remember who we really are, and to realize who we are not- from all of the conditioning.


Who or what inspires you?
The realization that living in consciousness, is the only way to live.

Where are you the most fearlessly authentic in your life?
When I'm teaching, and waking to the early morning of practice, and being aware of all the great blessings I have in my life (but not as ownership), and in that moment be a witness to my body, heart and mind feeling content, with everything that is known, and anything that is unknown.

 

What is something not a lot of people know about you?
I grew up in Queensland, Australia, and we always lived close to the ocean, and inside of the miraculous, and warm, salt water waves is where I experience deep harmony, and being only on the mat have I ever come close to matching it's healing effects.

 



Mellara Anzenberger instructs the following:
  • Vinyasa Flow - All Levels
  • Dynamic flow-based yoga. Recommended for those having a familiarity with Sun Salutations A and B.

    Power Vinyasa flow is a rigorous, sweaty yoga practice stemming from the ashtanga tradition. Poses are held for shorter periods of time and will link one breath with motion, creating a dynamic and fluid ‘meditation in motion.’ This is a hot, sweaty fun practice often set to fun, fluid, dynamic music. You will leave inspired and ready to shine off the mat!

    Room heated to 85-88 degrees.


  • Gentle Flow
  • Gentle Flow is offered in a non-heated room. This blissful practice focuses on moving slowly into basic yoga poses while using the breath as a tool to remain present and mindful. The slow pace of this class allows you to enjoy each pose. Expect lots of stretching and lengthening with a heavy dose of relaxation to wrap up your practice and leave you feeling great. Classes are suitable for beginners as well as advanced students. Non-heated class.

  • Deep Yoga
  • This dynamic class is designed to connect you to your physical body and your spiritual ethereal body. Come prepared to witness your experience in this class, because each class is different, we are guided to drop our expectations of yoga and of ourselves. These classes are a unique exploration of how yoga impacts our physical and mental forms both on and off of the yoga mat. You will leave feeling connected, strong, and inspired. Classes are done in a heated or non-heated environment depending on the teacher. Great for all levels.
