Deep Yoga Level 2/3

This class is taught by:

Nicole Harrow

To Nicole, Yoga is a powerful and mystical tool for unearthing your highest potential. An experienced teacher and practitioner, Nicole’s classes are an alchemy of movement, stillness, breath and awareness. With the current cultural climate and busy lifestyles there are many challenges for the modern yogi. Nicole offers thought provoking sentiments to deal with these challenges, drawing upon yogic texts including Pantanjali’s Yoga Sutras, and the Hatha Yoga Pradipika. Most importantly, Nicole holds a space that is safe and free of judgement for students to explore and expand their connection to their own inner wisdom and teacher.

Why Yoga?
I had no idea how disconnected I was with myself, until I started practicing yoga. I would get these tiny glimpses while I practiced. It felt like I was uncovering this sacred space that was within me, and that I could be a better daughter, friend, partner, and overall human after class. Over the last 16 years I have felt awareness quietly flowing in. It started from the outside - my limbs. It moved into my breath. Then into my mind, and then to the more subtle aspects of energy and spirit. My yoga practice is deeply connected to how I choose to live my life every day.

Who or what inspires you?

The warm sun on my skin. That feeling when you jump into water. Trees blowing in the wind. Seeds. My kitty’s rumbling purr. The space between my inhale and exhale. My husbands eye color in both my boys. Feathers. Being still. Animals. Bodies of water. Dancing. Dogs….dancing dogs = even better ;)The strength and beauty of the human spirit. My teacher Lakshmi Norwood. Patanjali’s yoga sutras.

Three adjectives that describe you and your teaching style:

Open. Creative. Deep

Where are you the most fearlessly authentic in your life?

When I am uncomfortable, whether it is physical or emotional..instead of pushing it away..I am learning to lean in and observe without judgement. When I am outside of my comfort zone, I learn and grow the most.

What is something not a lot of people know about you?

I love pie..everything about it…eating it…making it…thinking about making it… smelling it….a bonus to practicing yoga is that I can eat more pie :)

Lakshmi Norwood

Lakshmi is a practitioner of the yogic arts, an enquirer into Spirit life and a maverick in the milieu of popular yoga. A longtime student of Mark Horner (Director, Hatha Yoga Shala East Bay) and Mukunda Stiles (Structural Yoga Therapy, Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras, Yoga & Ayurveda, Tantra Yoga Secrets), Lakshmi teaches classes, workshops, courses in Hatha Yoga and specialized series for advanced students. Lakshmi is considered a "teachers' teacher" and has a unique ability to articulate the personal significance of ancient teachings for the modern practitioner. She has written course curriculum, teacher training manuals and numerous articles on yoga. She speaks locally and nationally on the practice and philosophy of yoga and is committed to living its principles.

Why yoga?
For me, Yoga is the most direct and unfettered path to experience Spirit within.

Who or what inspires you?

Many years ago, I walked into the classroom of a teacher with a longstanding lineage behind him. I was drawn to the power and intimacy of the practice, and I see now that such rich teachings cannot be passed on without conviction, dedication and patience on the part of both teacher and student. This live transmission is a powerful, inspiring force that continues to inspire me every day.

Three adjectives that describe you and your teaching style:
Fire. Maverick. Potency.

Where are you the most fearlessly authentic in your life?
There is nowhere I am not authentic
. . . whether I am hugging my daughters, getting angry at my husband, headed to the opera or procrastinating. Some things we find pleasant, others not, but they are all equally real.

What is something not a lot of people know about you?
1) I like Scotch
2) I actually won a watermelon seed spitting contest
